Types of Classes

Happy Power Hour
During these classes, we all move through the poses as a unit, like a flow class. This class moves at a quicker pace, covering more poses in less time. Although all levels are welcome, previous experience is suggested.

Yoga Basics
This class is designed specifically for beginning students. The emphasis is on learning basic yoga poses in simple flows. The instructor takes more complex flows and breaks them down for students who are unfamiliar with yoga poses and movements. The class is slower and less rigorous than our other classes, and there is a focus on learning breathing and relaxation techniques. The temperature in the studio is also lowered during these classes.

Para Yoga
Para Yoga is a multi-level class designed to increase your flexibility, strength and energy, while helping you find stability (sthira), ease (sukha) and aspiration (Tantra) to expand beyond your limits. These classes use posture flows, as well as longer-held poses, breath work, visualization, deep relaxation and meditation to tone the organs, relax the nervous system, quiet the mind and bring integration of body, mind and spirit.

Forrest Yoga
The pillars of Forrest Yoga are Breath, Strength, Integrity and Spirit. Each class is structured to help create a sense of freedom, a connection to spirit and the courage to walk as spirit dictates. Forrest Yoga will teach you to Go Deeper, find your Truth and encourage you to take these gifts you have earned Beyond the Mat into the rest of your life. Forrest Yoga helps you connect to your core - getting strong and centered. It uses heat, deep breathing and vigorous sequences to sweat out toxins. The long holds in the pose progressions help you flush, oxygenate and rejuvenate every cell. This class is Level 1-2.

30-Day Challenge
Want to see what the concentrated practice of yoga can do for you? Take our 30-Day Challenge. Many students asked for it, so we’ve brought back this special package, which allows you to take as many classes as you’d like over a 30-day period. It’s a great way to see how the regular practice of yoga can affect your body, mind and spirit. Yoga is its own reward, but the student who logs the most visits will win a special prize, compliments of Balanced Hot Yoga. There is a  special discount for this program. Check for details.

Vinyasa/Hot Yoga
Vinyasa is Sanskrit for “flow.” These classes are all encompassing, combining ancient and modern techniques. During Vinyasa, we are "flowing" from pose to pose and, more importantly, from breath to breath. Through a mindful application of technique and integrity, we bring awareness into every step, and we accentuate the physicality with every breath. Emphasis is placed on how we feel in the pose (Asana), rather than how we look. You will experience various styles of deep breathing (Pranayama) to warm and prepare the body for the poses, as well as flowing and holding techniques, inversions, arm balances and back bends. At the end of every class, a well-deserved deep Savasana (dead body pose) encourages release, relaxation and the benefits of the sequencing. The room is heated to 90º F to promote detoxification, purification, weight loss and an ultimate sense of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual revitalization. Open to students at all levels.

Vinyasa/Hot Yoga Flow Classes
Intended for the more experienced practitioner, these sessions are not taught. Instead, the instructor leads the class using the techniques described above, moving through the poses at a more advanced level. We recommend that you work with Lori on a daily basis (or have taken at least 5 classes with her), or have already developed a solid practice, before you attempt these classes.

Core Yoga
Core Yoga is a divine blend of yoga, calisthenics, and pilates moves that awakens the core of the body: the trunk and pelvis, especially the abdominals.  Through a series of stretching, strengthening, and breathing deeply, the intrinsic core muscles receive full attention and aliveness.  A strong core can help with lower back issues, sciatica, release tension in the organs, increase overall strength and flexibility, create a more stable center of gravity and help brace and protect your lower back.  This is a multi-level class.

Candlelight Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is a series of asanas designed to target the connective tissues of the body (bones, joints, ligaments, fascia) and balance the meridian energies of the body by relieving stagnation and stress and increasing energy where it is depleted.  It is deeply meditative and incorporates Traditional Chinese Medicine philosophy.  Poses are held for longer periods of time (2-10minutes) to target the connective tissue as well as to promote stillness and deep enveloping of the breath.  This is is truly an awareness practice.  This practice is not hot and lit by candlelight, a heavenly experience. This is a multi-level class.
